How To Make Your Website Better

Websites in general are huge these days. In fact, there are thousands of new websites being created every single day and there are now billions of websites in total on the internet. However, a huge percentage of these websites aren’t really going to be offering much to the world. At least not much that other websites don’t offer. Even if you do have a good website, there are always going to be a number of ways that you can improve the site that you might not necessarily have come across yet.

It doesn’t matter how hard you’ve worked on your site, you are going to need to be on the ball if you want your site to remain one of the best in the world and this means making constant improvements. Here are a few improvements that you might need to make to your website that you might not have thought about yet either.

#1 – Improve usability

This is a really big issue on a lot of websites today and it is surprising how many well known websites you come across that are not very user friendly. In my opinion, the most important part of a website design is that it is user friendly as if it isn’t, it is likely that the visitor is not going to be able to find what he/she is looking for and therefore, will leave your website.

There are a few different ways you can improve the usability of the website but here are a few that I recommend. A lot of websites are quite complex and over-complicated which is not good at all for usability. Visitors like to know exactly where they are going to need to click to get what they want to simplifying the design of your site can add a lot of the usability of the website.

Another thing that you can do to improve usability is to actually make sure that the site is optimised for all screen sizes. Sure, people’s screen sizes in general are getting bigger and bigger but you still need to make sure that those with smaller screens are able to access your website.

#2 – Improve the design

How To Make Your Website Better – A great website for viewing the best website designs.

No-one likes visiting a website that has a poor design and often, if I visit a website and I am not impressed with the design straight away, I will click away. This could be what is happening to your website if you haven’t got the design down to a tee. Of course, designs are subjective and you might think that your design is the best in the world, but if the rest of the population doesn’t, then it is not going to work.

Improving the design of a website is a hard thing to do on your own usually and will often require the experienced eye of a great website designer. It is also important to note that website design trends change every year so your design isn’t going to last forever. However, you need to make sure that your design always suites the subject of your website and the audience that it is being aimed at. It would be no use having a website selling smart suits and it having a grungy look to it. This is sure to put-off your potential customers.

There are a lot of websites where you can view great designs in order to get some inspiration so if you are feeling a bit stuck in this area, this is what I would recommend.

#3 – Get a mobile optimised version of your site

This is a point that is becoming increasingly more important and there is actually a huge market for these websites right now. A lot of people are now browsing the internet using their Smartphone devices such as an iPhone or their tablet devices such as an iPad. For these people, you need to make sure that your website looks as good as it possibly can.

This is where a mobile optimised version of your website comes in. A mobile optimised version will make sure that the website is optimised for the smaller screens of these devices by providing bigger text and lower sized page files. It is important that your website loads quickly and displays the information in an easy to read manor for your mobile visitors.

Mobile websites aren’t that expensive to implement and can usually be obtained for just a few hundred dollars. A lot of people now have these websites on a monthly fee too.

#4 – Add Social Share Buttons

This is a really small thing to do but you might be surprised at how much it can improve your website in terms of visitor numbers. A lot of people still don’t put these on their websites which personally, I think is crazy as they almost certainly bring in a huge number of visitors to your website.

The social share buttons can usually be implemented in just a few minutes and it will mean that people can quickly share your content if they liked it. the most important ones you can opt for are the Twitter, Facebook and StumbleUpon buttons in my opinion. Although other buttons such as Pinterest and Digg are also good.

#5 – Structure it better in terms of HTML

HTML Example – Taken from a well coded website.

There are a lot of websites out there that actually look pretty good but when you delve deeper, they are not structured that well. There are a number of reasons that this backend of things really matters as occasionally, it can also be the front end.

A poorly structured HTML website is not only going to be difficult for the search engines, but it is also going to cause problems in terms of cross browser compatibility in a lot of cases too.

Any website developer can help you with this and usually, having it checked out and improved/recoded is not that expensive.

So, as you can see, there are a huge number of ways that you can improve your website and a lot of them are quite important and not that hard to implement.
