As the title suggests, is it okay to put H1 tags in the head of your website, or is this something Google would penalise me for?

Thanks.

You can put them where every you like providing they are in the body which is correct html usage.

So you can put them in the header of the rendered page, but not the <head> or meta area .

You wouldnt get penalised, but it may cause crawl issues and there would be no benefit by using the H1 in that way.

Ok, thanks! So do i take it what within the <head> area it should just be normal Paragraph <p> text? I've made my site title a H2 tag within the <head>. Is that not good either?

There should be nothing like that in the <head> section of the site, paragraphs and text are for the anything inside the <body> tags, any html in the <head> Won't show on the frontend wont have any benefit being there.

You can of course add things to anything within the <body> Which could contain <header> sections, thats there you would put text etc which would show in a header of the website.
