Is SEO Still Worth Doing?

Hi

Few years back i got the first position for "floor sanding dublin" and it was a big change within my business. Up to that point i used to spend 150 euro per day on adwords and from that point on, i had no need for adwords. The click rate was so high that i used to pre-book for 2 months ahead. Now, i have the first position for months with very little organic traffic. I get some, but far from what i used to get.

SEO listings are so down the page that most people cannot be bothered. First, there are 4 adwords listings that take half of the page, then there are the maps, that takes another 25% of the first page, then is "what other people search for" & right at the bottom there is the SEO listed. I just ca`t justify the time i spend doing SEO

Any opinions?

Hi there,
I am sorry to hear of your problem there but I wouldn't despair just yet. If you think about it logically the reason Google can make money from advertising on it's own search engine is because the organic results provided are such "good answers". There is an implied quality to the top ranked results and that is because Google has done so much work on improving the algorithm to find the best answers for each search query.
The organic search engine is literally the Goose that lays the golden eggs for Google, they aren't going to kill it off in the long run by drowning out the best websites ( top organic results) but perhaps they have overdone it with paid advertising in your niche and locality, hopefully it will be temporary but you should do more analysis.
First you are talking about clicks, your organic traffic stats is down, you have a theory that people can't be bothered to scan so far down the results page, you could be right or perhaps not... the historical data always strongly suggested that the organic results get up to 90% of clicks, around 60% to the first three results and the clicks to paid adverts was very low say 5-10%, it was believed that people knew that those advert clicks were low because the searcher knew they were only on page 1 because they paid to be there, unlike the top organic results that had implied quality from Googles approval.
It's possible that the stats may completely change due the more screen estate given to adverts but that's not proven and not consistent with the historical data.
I would suggest that you look at this from a human level, consider the persuasiveness of the competitors meta titles and meta descriptions and compare them to your own - you might need to consider tweaking your own meta-data to try to compete but be careful not to spoil pages that are already ranking, consider the fact that when people get an answer that they like then they generally stop looking so you need to be the "early bird", ensure you respond fast, address the customers needs/questions with your copy/ products andservices and work on conversion optimisation and reputation management too.

Thank you for your amazing answer. There are so many thongs to consider. The SEO still brings in work but not the way it used to.

Thank again

The answer is yes, there is no denial that SEO has evolved dramatically and now requires much more than just having great content.

SEO is more important than ever! It’s still one of the most potent digital marketing strategies that drive long-term results. You need to right techniques.

For a better understanding of the importance of SEO, you can take an example of this digital marketing agency which is doing a great job by using all the latest technologies.

In this digital age, you have to make your online presence because if potential customers can't find your website it a great loss of your business by not showing up in Google's search results.

You're handing business away to other websites, including your competitors. SEO can remedy this and get you back in the game.

Yes, of course, very important, here are things to consider for great SEO
- Meda data (SEO title and description)
- SEO optimized URLs - example not "image/9182938/use2323r.php" but "image/seo/user/paul"
- Back-Links
- Alt Tags on images
- H1 and H2 tags
- Outbound Links
- Linking to pages within your website
- Considering page speed insights (fast load speed, good CLS speed and CLA)

These are the main 8 to consider to always do on all page you publish

I would say, yes SEO is still worth doing. According to Forbes, SEO is an 80 billion dollar per year industry. There would not be 80 billion dollars invested in an industry that is "not worth doing." Additionally, CTR study's have been done that show despite much of the above-the-fold content being taken by ads, majority of searchers still seek out the top organic positions.

I would post the links to back up the claims I've made in this reply, but don't have enough points yet to include links in my posts. Apologies.

In 2021 Absolutely not. Businesses are still making money because Google puts them at the top of the search results. What is dead is old SEO techniques that were highly effective and could rapidly promote your business up the Google rankings ladder, quickly, easily and cheaply.

SEO is a very helpful process for your website. It grows your website ranking. With the help of SEO, you can get your site on the Google Search Engine Result Page(SERP). SEO gives organic traffic to your site.

I think it's fair to say that google wants to promote paid ads as much as possible.
Of course SEO is worth it though in most cases, you could create the best content ever and without SEO nobody would ever know, which in my opinion is exactly why it's all wrong...

Search Engine Optimisation is highly recommended to drag organic traffic. It is one of the key strategies of digital marketing. By implementing SEO techniques, you will get definitive long-term results. Ranking among the first ten in the search list is only possible if you make your content SEO optimised. Adding relevant keywords, backlinks, ALT texts, meta title, and description are some of the ways to optimise your content. Google allows the best answer to a user’s search query. Therefore, if you can create SEO content that is equally informative, you are bound to get a higher rank.
