A Query About the External Links report in Search Console

Hi I'm new here, but I wonder if anyone understands what the problem here is. In a client's search console, the External links report has external links marked which come from his own domain - more than half are self referring links. Same domain, same protocol and I am puzzled. The site uses an external platform for workwear embroidery. It is mapped to his own url. He had the site rebuilt about a year ago when the underlying platform finally caught up with the move to mobile friendly site technology. The site is called Stitch and Print - and is based in Cumbria. (I can't post a link) I can see there is a big hole in my knowledge here. Who has come across this issue before?
