Hello, I'm running a bilingual page about interesting places. The page is translated using Google translate ... My question is: whether both language versions are indexed by google and does it affect the positions in search results ?

Google will index both page versions unless you have instructed the search engines bots not to access the page.
I suggest you to implement the hreflang tag on each page. I'd also get the page translated by a professional as the bad quality of the content might be seen by search engines as lousy quality, therefore, resulting in low rankings.
