I am now sorting out adding a Blog to my website.

Is it a good or bad thing to allow visitors to write a comment on each post?

I think it's a good thing, make sure you reply with a good word count and ask a question back. Other people adding fresh content on your blog can only help.

Letting people comment means that your blog will not be in a stagnant position and new viewers will come to add something So keeping the commenting and interacting will increase traffic to your blog.

Comments are a perfect way to make your blogs interactive. The motive behind writing a blog post is to provide content that resonates with your audience and once they read it you want them to take some sort of action. It helps in building a strong relationship with your readers and as @Jason Harper said it will prevent your blog from being in a stagnant position.

Do enable them and moderate them regularly. There is a load of spam that comes along with it but if you keep it under moderation then you can really keep your post fresh and enticing for users.

Thank you for your info.

None of the comments get posted on my posts unless I agree with it after reading it.

Hello,
Having comments on the website blog is actually a good thing. It can display social proof. Good comments are given information on your page and give it to a complete texture. With blog comments, you get a more content idea. I hope this information helps you.

Allowing visitors to write a comment will increase your website traffic. Check them properly and approve. You will receive lots of spam comment. So keep them in your spam folder. I will suggest you one thing, If you are allowing any link from the third party via blog comment then try to make those link as "No-Follow".
