Question Could a blog on a separate domain be seen as spammy?

Hi all,

I'm looking after a website which has a good DA and their blog is on a separate domain with a lower DA. This isn't too much of a problem and is expected.

However every single article on the blog domain has at least 3+ links back to the main website. Could this be seen as spam to Google?

In my mind it's as if someone is creating a separate website just to get links with good anchor text back to them. However, I read a SmartInsights article that seems to think that it's a good idea. To me, it looks spammy and I would always prefer a blog to be on the main domain in a subfolder or at the least in a sub domain.

Anyone have any similar thoughts / worries?

Cheers
