Finding broken links to replace with your content

Hey,

I'm really trying to expand my knowledge here for SEO as a whole and I think I pretty much understand and know how to do all the on page optimisation techniques for my own site.

When it comes to the link building though things get a bit tougher. I can create blog posts and send them out hoping that I would get a credible link back to them or I can try to find broken links on other sites and see if I can try replace them with my content. Does anyone have any good first hand experience of this broken link technique? What would be the best platform for finding these broken links, and is it really worth your time to do so?

Link building seems like a very daunting process for a first timer like myself. I really wish I could watch someone do this for a website from start to finish but alas I don't think that's possible for me at the moment. Any help will do!

Thanks

I have got some links from different sites where I told them that some of the links were not working.

What I tend to do is search for my keyword, go to the sites that have come up and check their links page by clicking on every link on it.

Yes, it takes time but so far I have been lucky doing it.
