Google re-writing title tag - any ideas why?

Hi all - new to the forums :)

Context: I've recently redesigned and rebuilt a Wordpress site, getting rid of lots of irrelevant / out of date content.
An issue we had was one of our core pages was showing for too many search queries - for whatever reason, Google took it to be our most important page.
The redesign, architecture, breadcrumbs etc should all make clear that this page is not the key page (though still useful)

Problem: Over the last few days, for that page, Google has re-written the Title tag showing in the search results to something meaningless which will reduce click-through rate.
HTML Title tag is: Discounting vs Factoring - [brand name] (admittedly could be better)
Google search results (desktop) showing as: Product Discounting vs Factoring Factoring and invoice...

It doesn't seem to be happening to any other pages (yet).

Any ideas why and whether I should be worried??

Cheers
Richard

Never heard of that happening before. I do`t think google re-writes content on its own. You must have some SEO program that re-writes SEO friendly content

Google has done it in the past - there are articles around on the web about it, but I've never seen it before.
Interestingly, this version lasted only a few days - Google is now displaying an optimised version (again, not directly from my <title> tag). The only SEO program I have running is Yoast which I'm pretty sure isn't doing this.

According to the Google Community site……….

Avoid vague descriptors like "Home" for your home page, or "Profile" for a specific person's profile.

Avoid keyword stuffing.

Avoid repeated or boilerplate titles.

If we’ve detected that a particular result has one of the above issues with its title, we may try to generate an improved title from anchors, on-page text, or other sources.
