How do you earn through Youtube?

I have seen so many videos of songs and movie scenes that have been monetized. As per Youtube policy, this is illegal as they are using someone else's material and passing it off as their own (with or without credits). How do you get past Youtube's screening? I have made so many music videos and lyric videos, but all of them get held up for copyright issues. Is there a way around this? Have any of you tried to earn through Youtube's adsense?

I don't think it's illegal for people to put out tutorials and things of that nature. I think people end up gaining people's attention by putting out tutorials for various money making schemes online, and that ups their audience in order to generate traffic to another cause or causes they are promoting. It's all about building a fan base with YouTube, at least that's what I've learned.
