Hi, How to get more followers on social media sites, and my blogs and web 2.0 sites?

I read a lot of posts about promotion and how to get more followers. My experience says that now everything of that works.

Sequence:
1. Produce and post quality informative content.
2. Expand your social network: Join more people, send and accept friend requests, join groups, join pages, chat with like minded people, make a network that responds to your posts!
3. Repeat step 1.
4. Repeat step 2.
5. Once when you know that people have started taking your posts seriously. Then start mildly promoting your content. Don't irritate people with too much of promotions! You will have to maintain a 80:20 ratio.

and
20 is Promotional.
6. Now you know the reason why Affiliate marketing works! Because you are asking an already established person to promote your product or services, and it works! Because people are naturally connected to them! So all these steps from 1 to 5 become no longer required in the case of Affiliate marketing!

The classic "Like & Share!" always seems to work well, at least from what I have seen on Facebook.

The number is becoming increasingly irrelevant. If you're talking specifically about Facebook you can pay as much as you'd like to gain followers but if they're not engaging with your content then they won't see your posts.

I agree with that too.

On my Facebook and Twitter accounts I tend to follow/like and share people who are also interested in the same subject. If you do that for them its a good chance they will do it for you.

A 'normal' website does not have 1000,000 visitors in 7 days, Google will not be happy with that.
