How to get my business to the top of Google

Hello there,

I currently run a business called "Sussex Sound". We specialise in sound, lighting, staging and power hire for clients across East / West Sussex. My website SussexSoundCompany .co.uk is a squarespace hosted website.

I understand SEO fairly well I like to believe, but I cannot get our website to appear at the top of Google when doing a "named search". The website will show if I google "sussexsound" as one word, but when I google "Sussex Sound" it's not showing until at least the fourth page.

As you can imagine this is rather frustrating; as we need our business website to be there on a named search. I also own the domain sussexsound.com which redirects to the sussexsoundcompany.co.uk domain, in the hope that would indeed help push the SEO ranking.

I am using Google Search Console, and have multiple link backs from different business directories but still to no avail.

If anybody could help point me in the right direction as what to optimise next, would be greatly appreciated.

Many Thanks.

George.

Hi George! We have the exact same problem, only that we are ranking better. Our website is professionalcarpetcleaning . ie but when you look up professional carpet cleaning we rank on the 7th position. So we could use the same information if you figure it out!

Hello George,
Having had a very brief look at your site there are are a number of basic areas I would suggest for improvement. Your page titles could be stronger. (Although not as important, I have not looked at your page meta descriptions.) When focusing on the business name the use of it in the structure of your content can be improved.
Unable to check right now but I would be looking at sub-headings, descriptions, GMB description, image ALT tags.
I hope you start moving up
Neil

George,

Have you considered creating a news page? You could post weekly news articles about your company, with "Sussex Sound" in the title, and share them on your social media channels. If you had extra time I highly recommend you try to get indexed in Google News.

Since you already own "sussexsound.com" you could use that domain as your news site and try to rank it also, then refer traffic to your main site. There are some good press release websites if you can connect your company with any celebrities or trending topics.

If you keep all your social media channels updated once a week with "Sussex Sound" news it will help you rank.

There are also some quick-win technical improvements you can make, as @Elyman mentioned. I noticed on your site there's several opportunities for you to replace the first "We..." on every page with "Sussex Sound." Certainly you should use "Sussex Sound" as the first words in your homepage META description.

Did you know that your domain name expires in 6 weeks?

There are a few of the techniques that can be very effective to make your business to reach and continue to stay at the top of Google. The methods are as follows -

Incorporate local search strategy -

In simple, use the words which are more appropriate for your business's locality and your target customers.

Choose the right keywords -

Keywords are essential, and if you don't know which will be more productive, you can search for the trends in your niche.

Focus on the content -

Yes, SEO is essential, but so is your content. If you don't publish quality content, it will affect your ranking drastically.

I'll suggest you submitting a GMB page for better local opportunities.

I would suggest doing a free website SEO Audit. That way it will show what mistakes (if any) that need fixing.
