Question How would duplicate content on two different domains effect our SEO, if we own both of them?

Hi there,

So the company I work for owns 3-4 companies all over the World in different names, with different website's and domains. All in the same industry of insurance.

I'm working on their blog content and need to know how posting the same blog post on 2 of these websites, will effect SEO?

Is this a wise move? Because of Google's updates and algorithm changes is it now sophisticated enough to believe we are copying one company's content and restrict the other's duplicate because of it?

Does Google know we own both websites, even though they are completely different domains and in different countries? Can we tell Google this information?

From my understanding we should create different blog content for each website because Google sees them as different companies and even though we own both of them, there's no way to prove this to Google and we will be penalized for duplicated content. And for the sake of quality over quantity we should avoid duplication?

My manager wants to be able to save time and resources by using content we already have on one of our other websites.

Please can someone with expertise in SEO help with this query. Any information would be helpful. Thank you!

Yes, it will be seen by search engines as duplicate content. If it's only one page it shouldn't be a huge problem, however, the pages are likely to not perform as well as they could. The best option would be writing two different blog posts. If that isn't possible I'd suggest implementing the canonical tag pointing to one of them, depending on which site you want to push or is more important business-wise. This will solve the dupliate content issue but the page with the canonical tag implemented will be disregarded by search engines.

Hi, @amylawraa hope you are fine and doing good.

Yes, you are right Google is getting sophisticated day by day or rather I would say it is getting smart every hour.
After the Google Panda update activities like duplicate content, plagiarism, thin content will face very strict penalties. But if you are the author of all the posts that you might have posted across various domains then you are not committing any crime but as a webmaster or author, you need to tell your ownership to Google.

Solutions that could help you to show Google your ownership:

If you are working across different URLs then the following technique can be followed
Different Blogs for Different Domain:
If you have a passion for writing and love to develop informative and quality content for your reader then you can simply share different content for each domain.

If instead of working across your domain and sub-domains example: abc.com is a domain and it has sub-domains x.abc.com and y.abc.com you can follow these tricks:
Canonical Tags:
To keep it straight is a way by which you tell the Search Engine that one content is the original and the other is the copy which is also written by you. Thus you can authenticate all your contents that are the and but present across various URLs.
301 Redirect:
If you have created an alternate page for your content and you want your user to visit that you can set a 301 redirect for that page.

In concluding I will say that although the posting duplicate content is considered transgression according to the search engine but you have to prove that you are the valid author of all the contents present on the same URL or Present Across different URLs.
