Lost Links

Hi

Some of my backlinks look lost. I cant log in and re activate because i did not post it. Somehow good and bad backlinks just appear from nowhere. I found some links on highly popular websites and some of very poor quality websites. Looks like some people are just posting other people links in their websites. Anyway. But what do i do when a link appear lost on Semrush backlink audit? Should i sent it to disavow or it will just erase itself over time?

A lost link in regards to SEMrush or Ahrefs simply means that link can no longer be found on the page of which it originally was. This is sometimes however wrong as their crawlers often do not report properly.

Best practice is to check the URL to see if the link is lost, if it is decide if its worth chasing and if not leave it alone.

The most frequent reason for losing a link is changes to your own website. Over time, you may change your website URL structure. When that happens the old page should be redirected to the new page. But given how complex URL structures can be, that doesn't always happen properly.
