Need some help with migration to wordpress & poor indexing!

Hi, I've had our site ax-stream.com migrated to wordpress from a PHP site, and took the plunge to switch to HTTPS as I knew this was an important factor. I was hoping that the guys doing it for us knew what they were doing but I'm not so sure now.

I've spent a good deal of time adding great content - now there's three times the number of pages - but the organic search referrals have barely increased from before. I've spotted that there are a number of chained redirects. Is this going to cause a big problem?

I've also spotted that there are many links coming from an unknown site - probably low quality. I've disavowed this domain in an effort to address this, but not seen any change.

If you could refer me to any relevant articles or, any help would be much appreciated.

How soon after the switch to HTTPS are we talking? Because changing to an HTTPS address to Google is basically changing your domain. Therefore, you can expect some ranking loss initially. Have you checked whether your pre-existing pages have suffered that?

Secondly, you should try to get rid of the redirect chains. They eat up performance and crawl budget, which is bad for usability and indexing/SEO. Try to make all redirects resolve directly to your primary domain including www/non-www and HTTPS.

Thirdly, it might just take time for your new pages to rank well and bring in accordingly. Are you checking your rankings?

Hi

It takes about 1 month for all the links to update. You need to go to all your postings and change from http to https. It is a nightmare of a job but if you don`t do it manual, it will show as a broken link.

Well, that's not true at all. There are plugins that can update your links for you. However, there are other considerations when moving from HTTP to HTTPS. If you want a complete guide on making the switch, you can check this article: https://websitesetup.org/http-to-https-wordpress/
