Newby off page optimisation question

Hello,
very grateful of some advice. Im helping a friend out with her business, she has a twit and fb accounts which are branded with her full name, a website which is branded domain.net and Google My Business which has domain without the TLD and name of area as the title. All a bit of a mess in terms of consistency, not to mention that the website can't be edited easily as the software version is so old and buggy you can't edit it without downloading the file from ftp and making changes and reuploading.

She appears top of the local pack for 'local area name and keyword' which generates some business for her so dont want to muck this up. We wanted to
  • sort out her GMB as not properly optimised, add surrounding areas, description with keywords etc and make use of all the features, and add another location she works at
  • gain citations national, local and niche although ive discovered she has 10 already with low authority which are not NAP consistent and we dont have access to alter them, sites are very old and wont allow editing
  • get quality backlinks for website.
My question is would it be best to change the brand to the domain.net as that is what the brand keyword is on the website? If we were to go with this and change the social media name account names and GMB does anyone know if this would affect the position in the local pack?
If the 10 low authority old citations cant be removed is there any point in aiming for consistency in terms of NAP on social media etc at all?
Hope this makes some sense, very grateful of input as am relatively new to seo.

My honest advise, is you shouldnt be working on a "friend / clients" business if you are not aware of the consequences of your actions or how to correct them if something was to go wrong.

If it was your "friend" asking these questions as the business owner and wanting to DIY then fair enough as she can follow or take the risks as she pleases.

Your questions are do not have straight forward answers, but as a whole you need to decide on the brand name and be consistent through out, including GMB, social pages, citations.

That said, you don't need to use the domain TLD in a brand name. So if your GMB profile title is "Blue widgets Norwich", that's what it should be on your social and citations too.

If existing citations are uneditable, your only choice is to saturate them with correct ones, 10 old uneditable citations is not going to make or break a successful campaign.

Thanks for your response, so would you suggest changing the social media accounts name from her full name to the brand name? On FB she has 70 likes and 10 5 star reviews which may come up on GMB if there was naming consistency. Could changing the name on social media have an impact on the ranking in GMB for the local area and search term? She has also added the area name in her GMB listing after the brand name which isnt great for NAP consistency?

As mentioned before, social account name/title should be the the same as the GMB profile.

If she's added the area name to the title of the GMB profile and wishes for that to be her primary brand then it will need to be consistent with all citations and social profiles too. However adding areas or service keywords to your GMB profile will possibly be seen as a spammy listing by your competitors who make continue to "suggest an edit" which is obviously not what you'd want.

Be transparent, have the title for what the brand actually is not stuffing it with things which will only give you short term benefit.
