For years and years i thought that radio is death and if is not 100% death, is so expensive that no one can afford it. Then i was watching a dragon den show and a lady was talking about the way she promotes her company. She was spending 10k in radio ads and she was getting 1 to 7 the return. Then, few months later, i had a chat with another carpet cleaning contractor that was not present on google at all. I asked him how is getting the work. He told me that he gets a spot at 6-7 am for 30 second, very cheap & from that radio add he is making 25k per month. I could not believe it.

He reckon that most people over 70s do not use the internet but all of them are wide awake from 6 am. They spend a lot of time in the front of the radio. As it happens most 70 years old people own properties and have a lot of disposable income. Beside that, they also have many allergies. So this dude was getting rich without giving google any money. Older people also seem to stick with the same contractors if they are treated well.

So my next add is radio. 8k per month - 1 month should bring enough work for 3 months. I hope this helps others to think outside the box

Radio is fairly hit and miss now days and is VERY business dependant. Some businesses it works well with, others its absolutely terrible.

Your particular instance, I again think it could be either very good........or very bad. Sometimes its not only about the conversion though, you have to think in the respect of spending XXXX amount on a radio advert, if I was to spend XXXX amount on other marketing venutures..........would the conversion rate be better.

The idea is to scale based on the best conversion, much like you would with PPC, you would split test different ads, removing low coverting ones.

I know people that were spending £20k a month on radio and local magazine ads and although it was converting into sales the margin was terrible, switch them to spending £20k a month on SEO and PPC, their margin was through the roof.

Margin and conversion is everything, product value is hugely important. A radio advert on a product which only needs a few sales to make thousands and be in profit is very different to a radio advert which requires 200+ sales to start making profit.
