Question Ranking for Keyword Bouncing

Please can you help me? My UK website for Pendulum of Mayfair has for a number of years been struggling ranking for one keyword in particular on google. (antique clocks). It ranks in the top ten and within a few days drops 25 places and then within a week pops back up. It has done this for numerous years now. Some directory seller spammed my site with many anchor text links for this keyword. I asked these to be removed but he wanted thousands of pounds. I disavowed them to google and deleted other spammy looking links. Since this time I have developed a new site. The ranking has improved for this keyword from bouncing between about 60 and 30 to now bouncing between 30 odd and in the top 10. Roughly up and down by 25 places each time.

What further can I do. Is there something wrong with my on page seo that can be the issue?

Fluctuations are all apart of the game, typically I've seen what you've described before when the site/domain isn't powerful/stable enough to retain its position or there are crawl issues. It would be hard to say with out auditing your backlink profile and website.

But I suspect if you've got nothing but low quality backlinks, that will be your main issue. Build some good quality links and see if things settle

Do you mean links on other websites, or links on my social media accounts and blogs for my own website, done by me. If other can you recommend a company that builds quality links and audits backlink profile without costing to much.
