hello
we have an old website that we plan to permanently redirect to a new one eventually
it currently has google analytics code at top of page which we don't use and if we did use it - it would moreove be with the new site in the future. Is it ok to leave there or best to remove for seo purposes? would appreciate thoughts

These steps should help.

1. If you want permanent redirect then you have to use 301 redirects.

2. If your old website is already indexed and receives a lot of organic traffic, it is best not to remove that website.

3. Remember: If you will remove the website, then you will lose all your traffic, content and backlinks. So, think twice.

4. So, for SEO purposes, it will be better to redirect your old website to your new site.

I don't think it will hurt you to leave the Google Analytics code on the site for now. However, once you have made the switch (and redirected the traffic to the new site), it will make more sense to implement GA on the new website.
