Question SEO & Subdomains

Hey!

I have a question regarding SEO & subdomains.

We are currently building a website on WordPress that will offer features such as a blog, forum, guides, videos, etc. with that we need to have a store to sell products on.

WooCommerce isn't an option as all of our inhouse order management software is integrated and set up to run with BigCommerce.

(We use BigCommerce for another company within our group, so it made sense to keep with BigCommerce for the eCommerce side)

To get around this we are thinking of having the blog/forum/aftercare site on the top/main domain using WordPress and building a small eCommerce site using BigCommerce on a subdomain.

Are there penalties or concerns we should be aware of if we build our eCommerce site on a subdomain?

The main domains SEO focus will be on content/community/help guides and the subdomains SEO focus will be more product lead.

I would really appreciate any feedback and experiences anyone has had with this type of scenario.

Thanks :) #ecommerce #seo #help #subdomain

Sub domains are generally treated as seperate sites, so its important when using them for the same brand so ensure your internal and cross linking is consistant.

There some good articles on different aspects here :

Every case should be treated individually as I personally don't believe there is a blanket coverage for advice on what to do, that said in every single migration we've done from subdomain, to subfolder which essentially combines each individial subdomains authority has resulted in an uplift.
