Hi Guys,

Although i've been into SEO for a long time it's only ever been on my local based services site (garage doors).

I have now started an online classified business and am going up against some big players but am struggling to get to page 1 for any of the major keywords, the main keywords being boats for sale, yachts for sale and fishing boats for sale to name but a few. Also, the only page that is ranking for any of these is the home page and none of the catergory pages, why is this?

Could some of you perhaps take a look at my site and tell me what i can do to improve things??

URL is boatsforsale.co.uk (didn't want to link to it as this isn't a relevant forum...

Look forward to hearing your thoughts/abuse... :)

Good Morning @mikeyg I went through your site and generated an SEO Audit for your site using some free tools, I got to know that your 20 pages have a low word count some of the URLs are below please have a look:

This is a high priority issue, some of the other low priority things that are needed to be corrected are:
- Update URLs to be more human and Search Engine readable
- Use your main keywords across the important HTML tags

- Add Schema markup

Also, improve your social activity, such as:
- Grow Twitter following
- Setup and Install a facebook pixel

Other issues that are hampering your issues are:
- Javascript Errors
- inline styling

These are some errors that are not letting your pages rank on top of the SERPs, some major errors can be looked at using a paid tool such as SEMRush. If you are running short of paid tools MakeWebBetter can give you your exclusive site report.

Please feel free to connect with me, either DM me or we can have a chat over Skype, given in my signature.

Thank You :)

Hey @Jennifer Neon,

Thanks for your reply and sorry for the delay in gettiing back to you.

The few pages that you have highlighted are all low usage/low search volume pages so i havn't got round to wrtiting more content on them and since there are no/very few adverts on those pages i didn't see the point.

You say "Update URLs to be more human and Search Engine readable " what do you mean by that as I kinda thought they were pretty good...

Cheers

Mike

Content. Content is king. I know there are many way of doing SEO, links, tags, photos. comments, etc. But good content always wins. You might not get the first position for the most important keywords, but your customers will find you website through article postings. Post tones of articles about boats, boat paint, permits, fees, insurance, weather, etc. It will take a while but over time, you will notice good results.

In my industry, floor sanding & floor sanding are no 1 keywords. I am on 2-3 position. But i get most of my work from "local area". I rank well for specific areas

Ok
