Trailing slash canonical issue

My wordpress site has no trailing slash defined in the permalinks, however I have only just noticed that Yoast plugin automatically creates canonicals with a trailing slash. Site Audit in AHREFS shows this as an error

So i am wondering if I should now change the permalink structure so they have a trailing slash (and presumably also all internal links in the page content.

Any ideas?

Hiya,
I am not sure with, or without is critical?
Have you tried opening either?
I checked one or two of my sites and I have examples of both.
It will be very interesting to know what others think.

I think it doesn't matter which you have for the page. Probably makes no no difference in practice but technically the canonical should be the same as the page URL (permalink).

But I just found Yoast have just fixed this issue anyway and canonical defaults to the same as permalink settings
