ubb.threads - should they go free?

I was thinking, ubb.thread's userbase has dropped considerably over the last couple of years, more advanced paid software has emerged and it has now been left in the dark (apart from those die hards). My question is, why would anyone pay for that when they could get vbulletin or xenforo for the same price, wouldnt it be better for them to release it for free (not open source)?

I personally believe they should.

I believe they should modernize the software or even conduct a complete rewrite and bring it back to the standards that we expect as modern forum owners.

Never heard of this but it has an interesting name that reminds me of an old commercial forum script from the late 90's called Ultimate Bulletin Board. I thought they got purchased by Infopop before eventually going under. Is this in any way related to that forum script?
