URL Shorteners - bit.ly

It has been quite a while we have various URL Shorteners like bit.ly. A lot of SEOs have been using them over the time to get links, though these are 301 redirect links, but debate goes around about its benefit.

There are mainly two groups in SEO. Some say since it is a 301 link, therefore some juice is lost, however other group claims that juice completely diminishes.

What is your take on it?

My take is that only some juice is lost, I'd ideally use a vanity URL if possible instead of a shortener. Also I think it's good to create your own unique shortener URL if possible, e.g. whi.ch/bestslowcookers goes to a which.co.uk page

I think that reducing the link in this way loses all the juice, so it is better to make some kind of system for reducing the link on your site, as written in the post above.
