URL Structure to a Single Depth Level

Hi all,

I'm building a brand new site, and although there is a well defined information hierarchy to my content, I am contemplating making all URLs (except for the domain) a single slash in depth (for example, domain/topic-page).

The rationale is that when seen on the search results page, the shorter URL will make it easier for users to understand what the page is about, and will make any keywords used more prominent. This in turn should improve click-through rates.

The information hierarchy would be communicated to the user and search engines by way of breadcrumbs.

Does this conform to good SEO practice? Could this harm the rank of pages?

Thanks!

URL becomes the connectivity between the user and the content. It provides the user with a link that redirects them to the content that they are looking for. It gives them the whole content under one link that becomes easier to find. A short URL always is preferable to Google and gives high ranking to the article. Different URL with the same content is not acceptable. You should check the structure of the Good URL in Google.

Thank you for replying, but I'm not sure you've answered my question.

That’s not a big secret that all search engines take into account the occurrence of keywords in URLs. The greatest impact is made by entering the address of the domain and subdomains. The smallest effect, but still very significant meaning, makes entering the path to the page and the name of the page file.

According to this, when picking up the URL for your page don’t forget to add focus keywords in it. Check this website for it and find the top keywords for your niche. But you should not add only the keywords into uniform resource locator, because it can make a negative effect on your ranking. Instead of this, URL has to be informative and provides some value for users.

Don’t forget about URL length. It should not be so long to confuse the user. Always check how many signs you put in it. The limit is 2 083 characters, but user-friendly one consists of 100 characters.

In addition, search engines can highlight the corresponding URL of the page in SERP, which naturally increases the CTR of the snippet in the search results. But what does it stands for? As practice shows, it is possible to increase traffic and improve behavioral factors.

Nesting should not be more than 4 and url should not be too large. Having keywords in url is good, but if you use a lot of them, get sanctions. Breadcrumbs help the user understand where he is at the moment (if he got to the site from a search) . For example, if the product is not in stock, then they can go one level higher in breadcrumbs and see another product of this brand
