Video Landing Page

Hi All,

I have had a client of mine come to me with an idea for a landing page simply just being a video, with low to zero content and one CTA. Besides the fact it doesnt sound like a good idea for a landing page in my opinion, what are peoples thoughts regarding SEO?

How would you go about juicing it up for SEO and also would this have any negative impact for SEO?

I am just curious what others think about this?

Thanks

HI Dale,

What is the target audience of the landing page ? Generally these landing pages work extremely well for converting, but more often than not the target audience is gained through traffic generation such as social media and PPC etc. If they are lead pages of an established website then typically these would be noindexed to limit "thin" or "duplicate" content if the content is already being used elsewhere.

If organic traffic is the main focus for this page or its a standalone website such as a lead generation site or affiliate style product, I would personally either have a decent amount of content below the fold so the video and CTA is still prime focus, Or I would use that video/CTA lander as the second step/upsell to a more content worthy lander.

The basic's you could consider on top of the normal onpage SEO :

  • Video Sitemap
  • Adding an accordion style content reveal which has the video transcript written in content form ( Had good success with this )
  • Make sure your page speeds ( perceived and physical ) are on point, loading async where possible.
  • If the video is embedded via a 3rd party platform such as youtube/vimeo etc, don't forget to add the video to all the other 3rd party platforms to with appropriate descriptions.
You can only work with what you're given, there is only so much on page optimisation that can be done.

The more content you have to play with the better/easier it is to work with external factors. There are plenty of CCS3 based functions available now to contain content within nicely styled blocks, accordians, tabs etc that allows you to still draw attention to the focus points but add content discreetly.
