Which option is better for a UK trade company.

Hi there everyone I hope im posting this in the right section.
Here is my situation I'm a plumbing and heating engineer and im wanting to build a website with good SEO as I hope to rank for geo targeted searches in my area.
I bought a website address thenameofmycompany.com but I never built a proper site as I was focusing on other things in my business but now I'm wanting to set up properly I was wondering if I should buy a different url with a .co.uk or go with the old site which is about 3 years old. I have read the search engines prefer older more mature urls so it makes me think I should stick with the .com but I have also read if you are only targeting UK customers you should go with a .co.uk so im a bit confused which is the better option. Hope somebody can help thanks.

Hi, Welcome to the forum.

Typically unless you have a really good reason to want to use a different domain its best to stick with the one you have had history on for the last 3 years, there will be mentions of your business around the web, such as business directories which associate your business to your old domain.

These count as citations and help towards your reputation, history and current standing.

Of course every business is different and certain situations it may suit you better rebranding, especially when assessing your local competition, if you wish feel free to send me a private message to review your current site and advise appropriately.
