Wrong indexing in google

Hi there,

Very new to SEO, however, I've noticed something weird with my site. Google has indexed it twice, one wrong and one right.

firstly the url example.com has a different title and description ( a default one that doesn't even exist) and the hxxps://example.com has the correct title and description.

I've linked my application to google search console in hoped to try and remove the wrongly indexed url but it doesn't exist so I can't get rid of it? Any ideas?

Many thanks

Have you defined a preferred domain in GSC?

It would be hard to understand exactly what you mean without examples of the listings in SERPs.

Meta desctiptions and titles can be auto generated by google if they think its relevant, that said from your description it sounds like you havent redirected the non-https version of your site to http ? Which would cause other issues not related to the title, description ?

Yes, the HTTPS issue is also something I'd check.

Thanks, so the site does redirect HTTP request to HTTPS

When you type in site:yourdomain.com into Google, do both versions show up?

Just the hxxps://example.com and the hxxps://www.example.com
Which are both correct and displaying the right title and description, it’s just when I go to google.com and type in example.com the. It brings up the right site with the wrong title and description, a weird description at that too

To be honest, I am at a loss as to what might be the cause of this. On another note, if you have defined your preferred domain in GSC, only one version (www or non-www) should show up in the index. The fact that both of them are present makes me feel like something's not right in your setup.

Thanks, so I doubled checked my GSC information and I have defined my site as hxxps://www.example.com it's also showing as valid in the console. Is there anything else i could try to resolve this?

Sorry, this appears to be above my paygrade. Maybe someone else has an idea.

Thanks again no worries - for anyone else, you can see the issue clearly if you type in google search wepentest.com (wrong title & desc) compared to typing in hxxps://wepentest.com (the right one) Not sure where the wrong title and desc has even come from.

Just FYI, I get the exact same title and description for both searches.

But that isn't my title nor my description, it doesn't say that anywhere on my website which is weird, it's just made it up. I added some info to my htaccess file which removed the random search result hence why both are now the same but still, this is not right.

That is weird. I just swung by your site and your title and description tag are definitely different. It's a mystery.
