Question Magento Pro's - Duplicate Content - Advice?

Hi all, thanks for visiting this thread.

We have a big e-commerce site that I'm trying to figure out how to push further up the rankings.

I did a site scan and it came up with over 400 duplications - many of those being 70% + exact matches.
The bulk of those duplications are our products.

We run on Magento so have a configurable product and several simple products relating to them.
Each simple product is a duplicate of the configurable (title, description, meta),other than the price and other features.

I heard creating a canonical tag from the simples to the configs is the best way to tackle that duplication. Is that correct?

If not, then I have the tedious task of making each one unique.. urghhh

Would anyone have any advice on this?

Our website: www. directcardboardboxes .co.uk

Many thanks for your help :)

Canonicals will help in regards to paginated pages and if there is more than one varient/URL of the same page.

But if you are talking about seperate products, which are different in some form with different URL's.

Then unique content on each product is the only way to do it properly.

Could you post a few of the URL's you are concerned about so we can look at each case and advise.

Hi, thank you for getting back to me!

Below is a perfect example:

go to - directcardboardboxes .co.uk
search - AZ519

You will see the configurable product, which is the one you land on.
The simple products are the pallet & 1/2 pallet options to the right

So the visitor doesn't see each simple as an individual product.
They just see options to select on one page

Google, however, is crawling the site and showing as several duplications of the one product.

Arghhh... WordPress isn't this messy!

And here's an image of our back end

Thanks again for your help!
