Does a YouTube video actually help the page it covers?

I’ve been experimenting with adding a YouTube video to some of my website articles, mainly when the video covers the same topic as the page.

I’m wondering if anyone here has noticed a difference in organic traffic or engagement after doing this. I’m not talking about getting traffic directly from YouTube, but whether having a relevant video on the page seems to help the page itself.

I’ve also been thinking about the viewing experience. Some visitors may simply watch the embedded video, while others prefer a YouTube Premium-style experience with things like fewer interruptions, background playback, or offline viewing. I’ve even seen sites like YTModz discussing YouTube Premium APK options, which made me wonder how much the way people consume the video affects engagement with the actual article.

Has anyone tested this properly with a few pages before and after adding the videos? Did you notice any meaningful changes in time on page, engagement, or organic rankings, or was the difference basically negligible?

Yes, it can help—but indirectly. Google doesn’t give a “video embed ranking boost” just for existing. The lift usually comes from better engagement signals (longer dwell time, more scroll), richer SERP treatment (video rich results), and clearer topical reinforcement when the video is tightly aligned with the page intent.

How to test it properly (pick 10–20 similar pages; add video to half; run 28–42 days):
  • Track GSC: clicks, impressions, avg position (page + query set)
  • Track GA4: avg engagement time, scroll depth, conversions
  • Compare against a control group + seasonality

Implementation tips
  • Add VideoObject schema and a visible transcript (helps relevance + accessibility)
  • Lazy-load the iframe to protect Core Web Vitals
Code:
<script type="application/ld+json">
{"@context":"https://schema.org","@type":"VideoObject","name":"...","description":"...","thumbnailUrl":"...","uploadDate":"2026-01-01","embedUrl":"https://www.youtube.com/embed/VIDEOID"}
</script>

Re: Premium/APK consumption—most users still watch inline; what matters is page speed, placement, and whether the video answers the query fast.
