I have posted few facebook and linked in articles. Unique content. Informative. Etc. But 6 months later the articles have little views and when doing a back link search, the link is not even there. I just wonder if linkedin and facebook postings are ok for seo or a waste of time?

Individual posts you wouldnt see in search results, the value of a social media post is not a direct correlation to SEO. It's more of a branding and brand building exercise which shows a particular brand is active on their pages which build trust signals.

Facebook and main social media sites are better for promotional content and paid campaigns but for SEO purpose backlinking on high authority sites are the best.
