What do you normally save your designs as? (.PNG, .GIF, etc) why?

Almost 100% of the time it's a .png

I use JPG for thumbnails and PNG for larger images, jpeg has a small file size and png is lossless, in the end I think it's all about the balance between image quality and file size.
