Inbound links from other owned brands

Hey,

I work for a company that owns 5 brands, all pretty large sites with 10,000s of pages.

We have one primary site, that has inbound links from all the other owned sites (4) resulting in 950k backlinks pointing to the domain.

For context, the primary domain has 781 referring domains (with 4 of them being the other owned sites).

My question was, will this excess of linking be harming the primary domain? Will the ration of backlinks to referring domains be seen as a negative quality indicator?

How are they linked ? In the footer or primary navigation ? Money Anchor phrases or branded ? Does linking to them give the user a resource or what is the primary goal of having the links ?

It's a tough question and one with not a straightforward answer, network sites are often linked between each other if they are highly related in topic, but there is always risk with sitewide links, especially if its seen as a mini private network of sorts.

I suspect rightly or wrongly, Google's official stance on it would be they should be nofollowed if they must be used, sitewide, and hold any value to a user. If they are not valuable to the user they shouldnt be there at all.

They are linked in the primary navigation, please see an example here at the top of the page 'part of the snaptrip family'

The sites' share properties, although they all operate in their niche (Big, Dog Friendly, Last Minute).

They are also currently 'follow' links.

Thanks in advance. Let me know of any further thoughts.

Trustworthy sites tend to link to other trustworthy sites, and spammy sites tend to link to ... Inbound links, also known as backlinks or external links, are HTML .... When websites are referring to your brand or a specific piece of content
