Only 3 months into studying digital marketing and could do with a bit of help

I have been studying digital marketing for 3 months after starting of as a cold caller for a company 10 months ago. After delving into the market I realised I was useless at cold calling but interested in SEO, Social Media, PPC, and Data and Analytics.

I have created a website for a friend using Wordpress and as I learn in my course I 'm adding SEO to the website to get him ranked.

I am very happy with my progress but need to clarify a few things.

As I don't have any HTML experience and jumped straight into Wordpress (I feel like I'm cheating but will learn HTML and PHP when I get the time), all the plugins I'm adding in Wordpress, would I have to add these by coding in HTML?
