Matt Cutts has clearly stated in his Blog post that google prefers the natural way to build back links. Its pretty overt that google loves guest blogging.

Do you think that its the natural way to build backlinks.

In my opinion, Guest Blogging (and hosting guest bloggers) would be one of the preferred way to build your backlinks. It's quality based and voluntary: exactly what Google wants. It helps other bloggers get exposure too, so it's nicely reciprocal.

There are any sites to find guest bloggers, but from experience they are not always very good. I'd suggest looking for blogs on comparable targets and contacting the owner directly.

Yes, I agree. Guest blogging has many advantages both for the guest blogger as well as the blog owner and these go above and beyond just getting backlinks. It's an opportunity for the guest bloggers to get recognition for their work, as well as the possibility of getting visitors to their own blogs. The blog owner is getting free content. Ideally this is how the Web should work with this kind of sharing of information.

Yes, I think this is true. Both the blog owners and the guest bloggers should be very selective. This works to their mutual benefit.

As a blog owner I have had people contacting me and wanting to guest blog. I find more often that not people are submitting substandard articles in hopes of getting backlinks. It would be far better for them to have a more professional approach that respects the blog owner and its visitors by taking the opportunity to offer quality content.

A few months ago I sat in on a Twitter chat that was hosted by Ann Smarty, the owner of MyBlogGuest.com. (I believe they do these chats weekly, if anyone is interested.)

Anyway, Ann is well-known and respected in the SEO blogosphere, so I was really curious to see if she would mention anything about the backlinking factor associated with guest posts. She didn't.

The biggest - and most interesting - point she made is that guest blogging should be viewed as a branding technique. I was a little shocked by this. I mean I've heard people say they guest blog for traffic. I've heard others say they guest blog for the backlink benefit. But I've never hear anyone say they do it for branding purposes.

Pretty soon after that chat I started guest blogging using the same pen name that I also use for a couple of Amazon Kindle books I've written. I don't consider myself to be a Pulitzer prize winning writer, but I'm no slouch either. So I targeted some pretty high-traffic blogs to see what would happen.

Sure enough some of the blogs delivered pretty good traffic to my site. But more often than not, the traffic was just okay. 'Okay' meaning 10-20 visitors per guest post. It definitely wasn't the windfall that I expected. But... those guest blog posts did lead to additional blogging opportunities, so I suppose Ann was spot on about the branding part.

At the end of the day, I do think guest blogging can add to your backlink profile. I also think it can be good for traffic, but that it's not always a sure thing. But like Ann said, it's probably best used for branding. If you want a great way to spread your name fast, guest blogging is an excellent way to do it.

Yes, I also agree with Sarah on this one. Guest blogging is one of the best ways to get a good ranking by Google. Guest blogging can go a long way because there's the opportunity that the guest blogger might ask you to blog for his or her site has a way to return the favor for giving his or her blog exposure on your website.

If its done right then yes, it is a great way to build backlinks.

But its got to be done RIGHT!

If you are just posting guest posts all over the net on any and every website you can just to get a backlink to your site, Google is more than likely going to notice and well...you know how the story ends.

Keep it related to your niche, unique, and informative and sit back and watch your site rank better!

I concur, guest blogging is one of the best ways to build some natural backlinks. Google is more inclined towards it as you earn these backlinks instead of buying 'em.

Wow, I never thought of that too, but anyways it did gave a me a few notch decent visitors from each blog post from every reputable blogs out there. I contacted admins from similar various blogs to my site and a few allowed me to post and link back. The traffic they sent me converts more than any of my sources since their blog is similar to my site. And I did saw someone mentioned my name on one forum and suggesting my site. I think that is what that branding purposes that you said.

We all know that every blogger has his/her own style of writing and I suggest all guest posters must frequent the intended blog first and join in the conversation before forwarding a proposal. I think that shows some "respect" to the blog owner.
