Question Recommended keyword density?

Hi Guys

For the past few years i post few unique articles weekly. I write some and i buy some from a very talented African freelancer. I was sticking with the rule of 3% keyword density thinking this is the way to do it. The articles make sense and i keep google happy. But my competition goes mad. Some of their articles are well over 6%-8%. I said to myself that over time quality will win. Nope. They took my first position about 1 year ago and they are still there now.

So what the hell is going on? Google seem to favour nonsense unreadable articles over quality unique content?

Keyword density is fairly old practice to keep tabs on, i suspect your competition is excelling in other areas such as quaility backlinks, site performance and/or overall domain authority ?

They have good links but if the rule of 3%-5% keyword density is broken, why there is no penalty?

If we all write articles with 10%-15% keyword density, the internet content will have no more point

There is no rule of a certain percentage of keyword density, your focusing on one aspect rather than looking at the over all picture of why the site is ranking better than yours, likihood is that if what you say is correct, then if your compeition did improve their content, they would pose an even bigger threat as their overall outlook seems to be stronger.
