Hello

I have a new client who wants SEO we agreed on a price, and they said they wanted to pay weekly, so I divided by 52, and they paid for a month's work upfront. This price is roughly 6 hours of work per week, and I explained this to them. Since taking this job, they won't stop texting and calling me, asking me to do more and more, such as doing SEO on a second website. I explained they paid for 6 hours per week, but it feels like they're taking their frustration out on me.

Is 6 hours ok for SEO?

How have you dealt with clients like these?

Any advoice would be greatly appreciated.

To be honest, as soon as the client said they want to pay weekly.........I'd have either told them it's monthly only at £x,xxx price, or told them to find someone else. As that to me is a red flag straight away of a client who wants to micro-manage or is going to creep over the scope of work and expect way more than whats been outlined.

I never give a client a set amount of hours, its a fixed monthly retainer with KPI's and goals to achieve over a period of time ( for example 3-6 months ), some months I could spent 15 - 20 hours on a client, other months it could be more like 6 hours but with added value elsewhere that doesnt take much time.

It's hard to say in your situation whats right and wrong, as 6 hours for some people could be £60 and for others £800 depending.

Typically though, if you feel they are taking the piss, they probably are.

Today I got the login details to their website, and there is a message from the last web designer saying

Don't trust this service; they couldn't even afford to pay their last developer.

I need to escape.

Thank you for your advice.

Weekly status updates or payment requests are always a red flag, glad you've found out before getting too deep.
