Which forum softwares do you prefer? Free or paid?

I honestly don't mind either as they all have something to offer but I am really starting to like XenForo as a paid software. :)

How about you guys?

I dont really bother if a forum is either made from free or paid for software. From an admin point of new, i use phpBB forum software for my 2 forums, but if i could afford it, i would use XenForo. From a member point of view, if the forum is active, has good content & generally provides me with what im wanting, i dont mind the software used to create it.

I agree 100%. I've been on some forums to where members have hated the forum software used so much, that they actually started a petition to get a new software in. Needless to say, they were placed on Mod Preview, and one of them got a permanent vacation from the site! :p

After getting Xenforo for UF, I'm done with free forums. I've used ZetaBoards religiously in the past, but now that I've gone paid I'm not going back. I'll still join free forums, assuming I'm interested in them, but I won't start a forum on a free platform.

I personally have no preference, however phpBB/Xenforo are my favourite free/paid softwares :)

As long as there are people registering, and staying active on the forums. I'm fine with forums being paid or free. Because in the end, we're all trying to make the money from the clicks.

I'm a fan of free software. I always like those free ones just like wordpress, mybb and SMF. I know there are otheres that are free too but these are the ones I like the most not just because I have used them with my website but the fact that one can edit things on it. I can edit the codes without problems and every one in thier forum is my support. :D

I like free forum software but not free forum hosts. They offer a great service for beginners but you outgrow the limitations they put in place pretty quickly.

I noticed a couple of free forums ranking well in Google recently, I wonder if there is an SEO advantage to using free hosts now.
